Stormwater & Backyards: Mississauga Drainage Resilience Review
This report reviews Mississauga's recent flood record, the July 8, 2013 flash flood and the two 100-year storms of July and August 2024, alongside published descriptions of how water moves through an engineered artificial-turf system, and asks where a synthetic lawn honestly fits in a flood-resilient Mississauga backyard. A typical 500 sq ft yard received about 4.9 m³ of rain in four hours on July 16, 2024; a well-built turf base gives that water a designed path, but basements are protected by grading, downspouts and plumbing, not lawn surfaces, and the rooftop-keyed stormwater charge does not change with the lawn.
